Student Pickup and Drop Off

Please take time to read the information below regarding Bicentennial’s drop off and pick up
procedures. Our goal is to ensure student safety while emptying the parking lot in a timely
manner.

We ask families coming from the Route 150 side of the school to drop off and pick up their
student in the front lot. Families coming from the Route 6 side of the building will drop off and
pick up students at the North (side) lot after school.

Breakfast is served from 7:20 a.m. to 7:40 a.m. Students will be kept in the cafeteria until 7:40
a.m. Please use the North Door to access the cafeteria. Students should not arrive before 7:20
a.m. The doors will be locked. Early students will be required to stand by the north doors
without direct supervision. If you need to drop off your child prior to 7:20 a.m., please consider
enrollment in our before-school YMCA program.

Students that arrive before 7:40 a.m. and are not attending breakfast or YMCA programs, will
be expected to proceed to the playground to join their class. Students will be required to stand
on their classroom line before entering the building. Please be aware that there is no
designated staff supervision before 7:40 a.m.

When dropping off your student at the North Lot, please do not stop traffic flow. We ask all
vehicles to stay in a single file line and pull forward until you reach the morning patrol students
or as far as traffic allows.

PLEASE DO NOT stop your vehicle at the playground fence to drop off your student. Doing this
slows down our process. Students will walk down the sidewalk on the side of the building to
line up on the playground with their classroom.

When dropping off your student at the Front Lot, vehicles stay in a single file line and pull up to
the patrol students standing at the curve of our sidewalk. Once your student exits the vehicle
they will then walk down the sidewalk on the side of the building to join their classmates at the
blacktop.

DEPARTURE.

Front Lot Procedure After School

Front (East parking lot) of the building pick up procedures

For the safety and security of students, the school has implemented a single-line route in the
front (east) parking lot of the school. This route is already marked on the parking lot and works
very similar to our North lot procedure.

There is a yellow line, which follows the sidewalk next to the front of our building for cars to
begin the pick-up line (see photo below).

PLEASE STAY IN YOUR VEHICLE TO KEEP OUR DISMISSAL PROCESS RUNNING SMOOTHLY AND
WE WILL MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD GETS INTO THE CAR SAFELY.

Once your child is in the vehicle, please exit the parking lot through the exit lane and vehicles
must turn to the right towards 150 per the Village of Coal Valley City Ordinance.

Parking inside the middle of the lot between the light poles is prohibited and we will ask you
to move. Lastly, please keep in mind that this procedure will cause a short line on 1st
street until your vehicle is able to enter the parking lot.

Side Lot Procedure After School

Side (North parking lot) of the building procedures

When Picking up your child from the North parking lot of the school we ask families to keep
their vehicles in the right lane while forming a single file line and pulling as far forward as
possible to the next numbered cone.

Once the dismissal bell rings, you will be greeted by a staff member who will ask you which
student is being picked up and will ask you to pull up to a numbered cone. Safety patrol
members or additional after-school staff will then make sure your child gets to the numbered
cone quickly.

When vehicles exit the parking lot, they must turn left towards Route 6 per the Village of Coal
Valley City Ordinance (a copy of this ordinance can be found in the next section below), and so we
don’t interfere with vehicles turning into the front lot from Route 150.

Section 11. BICENTENNIAL SCHOOL PROPERTY

Whereas the Village of Coal Valley, after considering volume, speed and character of traffic at Bicentennial Elementary School within the Village of Coal Valley, find that certain traffic controls must exist to enhance safety of the students, faculty, pedestrians, and vehicular traffic in the vicinity of Bicentennial School Property within the Village of Coal Valley . The Moline/Coal Valley School District authorizes traffic and parking enforcement actions by the Coal Valley Police Department on Bicentennial School Property to include all paved and unpaved areas.

1. All Parking and Traffic limitations shall be in effect when the school zone is in effect from

Monday – Friday 7:15AM – 8:15AM
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 2:15PM – 3:15PM
Wednesday 12:45PM – 1:45PM

2. All Vehicular traffic entering school parking area of Bicentennial School from the North (Route 6) shall turn RIGHT into the North Parking Lot. All vehicular traffic exiting the NORTH parking lot of Bicentennial School shall turn Left onto First Street into the North Bound (Route 6) driving lane when safe to do so.

3. All Vehicular traffic entering the school parking area of Bicentennial School from the South (Route 150) shall turn Left into the South Center lane for the East Parking Lot. All Vehicular traffic exiting the East parking lot of Bicentennial School shall turn Right into the South Bound (Route 150) traffic lane of First Street when safe to do so.

4. No person shall park in a space designated for handicap parking without proper documentation and authorization issued by the Secretary of State.
